There was Chennapattanam and then there was Madras.
About 357 years later, in 1996, she became Chennai. And whatever she may be called 385 years from now, she will always remain the "Queen of the Coromandel"!
Come wander around this blog. It will give you a peek into her soul!!

The Eater's Digest - 4
This was one of the 'happening' places in Chennai, in those days when Coke and Pepsi could be seen only in Hollywood movies and pizza was what Cakes & Bakes gave us. Good to see they are still going strong!
I spent my formative years honing my consulting skills in the management consultancy division of A.F.Ferguson (now part of Deloitte, India) in the first floor above Cakes N Bakes. To many of our clients we would mention that we were above Cakes N Bakes. It did give us the chance to get at some of the best pastries and pizzas in town in those years. The best Saturday combo was to have a pint of beer at Ganpat Hotel (diagnolly opposite Cakes N Bakes) and then march back for the pizza. In my last years there, I did get to know one thing - the guy who took the order for a take away was mentioning the location to his customer ' you know A F Ferguson - we are just below'. Cakes N Bakes & AFF are an integral part of my history.

@ Ram's blog: I remember coming in to AFF sometime in the early 90s - and then stopping at C&B before heading back to work. Those were the days!
